Made it into Abilene around 6 p.m. and checked in to a Holiday Inn. Somethin's goin' on in this town cuz the hotels are really expensive. Our hotel in downtown El Paso was only $150 a night and it was top drawer. We first looked in here at a Comfort Inn but they wanted $250 a night. The Holiday in next door wanted $200. We took it cuz we're tired. Dale called a Courtyard Inn in town and found out they wanted $400. Anyway, we were starving so Dale found a nice restaurant online located in dowtown Abilene.
Dale got the jambalaya and I got the pheasant. Really very nicely done all around. At the restaurant we discovered tons of prom couples there. I looked up on line what was going on in Abilene and there was some huge combined prom event at their convention hall that didn't seem to be for just one high school. Maybe they were drawing from the larger area.
Tonight there was a live hight school performance of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma.
Overall a very charming little downtown.
Afterwards back to the hotel. A fire alarm was sounding. It took a little while for them to get it turned off. In bed by 11:00. We're gonna aim for getting to Oklahoma City tomorrow. It's only about 5 and a half hours away but after a couple of longer driving days we feel like taking it a little easier today.
