Trip to Leavenworth Part 3

Sunday May 29, 2011

Coffee on the porch with Mom and Dale in the a.m. Madison, the family cat, had been stuck on the porch all night. She hightailed it to her box when Dale opened the door. She was back soon enough to sit with us. They boys woke up and joined us on the porch with their Imaginext toys and Lincoln Logs from the party last night.

Breakfast at about 8:30.

Sam, Dale and I went to church with Mom at 10:30 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Leavenworth. When we arrived the rosary was being led by a couple of women with very nasal monotone voices. The mass itself was very nice.

In the afternoon we drove in to Kansas City to take the boys to go to Science City at the Depot. Calvin's friend Diego came along with us. The boys really enjoyed it. Before getting to the Depot we drove by the Liberty Memorial which is a memorial to the fallen soldiers of World War I. It was quite beautiful. We had to take a slight detour to get to the parking ramp for the Depot as the grounds near there were getting set up for a free orchestra concert and firework show for Memorial Day weekend. After hanging out in the Depot we took a pedestrian bridge over the railroad tracks to a restaurant called Jack Stack Barbeque. There was outdoor seating that looked over the railroad tracks and you could watch trains go by. Kansas City's downtown has had a lot of nice developments since Dale and I were there last. I really liked seeing how much was going on near the railroad tracks. It was all quite beautiful.

Trip to Leavenworth Part 2

Saturday May 28, 2011

Coffee on Sam and Becky's porch with Dale, Mom and Sam. The boys came down later and we worked on puzzles. Some of the puzzles had been
mine as a kid and it was fun seeing them again. The fire truck and the hippos were two of my favorites.

We left the huse at about 9:15 to walk to the farmer's market. The boys bought honey sticks. We then walked to the old depot building to have breakfast. I ordered some ham and what turned out to be some pretty amazing French toast. Yum.

At about 2:00 p.m. we went to the movie theater to see Kung Fu Panda 2. Calvin, Cashel and Cairic loved it. I thought it was rather well done myself.

Tonight we celebrated Cairic's birthday even though it was actually earlier in the week. We had spaghetti for dinner and white cake for dessert. Dale and I got the boys Lincoln Logs for cairic but bought some extra sets with the intention that all the boys coud use them. Calvin was the one that was really taken with them.

Trip To Leavenworth Part 1

Friday May 27, 2011

Mom came over at about 10;30 and we left in her vehicle with Dale driving.

Lunch at Perkins in Clear Lake, Iowa at about 12:45. I had the Captain's Catch which was lots of deep fried seafood with onion rings and fries. Mom and Dale got healthier stuff.

Crossed over the Missouri River just before 7 p.m. and pulled up in front of Sam and Becky's house right at 7. The boys were very excited to see us. Becky said they'd been anticipating our arrival all day long.

Calvin, Cashel and Cairic performed Home on the Range on their glockenspiels. They sang too!

I remember being taken with Washington D.C. Oddly, I didn't write about it in my journal. Here are some pictures I took.

Trip Out East Day Eight - 1979

Saturday, June 16

We will leave in the morning for Chicago where we will stay with the Gassar family with whom we spent our final night on tour last year.

Journal: "Our host family was really nice I forgot there name but they were really nice. We have a 9 hour ride today also. Me and Jeff don't have to stay at the Gassers but at Jeff's dad's. Thank God tomorrow we go home."
